PRESENTATION

Dear colleague:

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain) welcomed, for the first time, the studies of marine sciences in Spain in 1982. The Faculty of Marine Sciences of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has trained hundreds of marine science professionals. The blue economy linked to the use of resources, the production of goods, services and the uses of the coast and the sea have in Gran Canaria, in particular and in the Canarian Archipelago, in general, one of its main exponents for its future economic development.

For this reason, the capital of Gran Canaria will host, in the week of July 4 to 8, 2022, Marine Sciences. It will begin with DINO 12 (from July 4 to 8) and it will continue with the VIII International Symposium on Marine Sciences (ISMS 2022) and the events that join it, in the emblematic Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.

ISMS 2022 is biannual and it is organized by the six Spanish universities where the degree in Marine Sciences is taught (Alicante, Barcelona, Cádiz, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Católica de Valencia and Vigo). It will be held from July 6 to 8, 2022 and it will bring together almost all lines of activity in the broad field of Marine Sciences aligned with the Decade of the Oceans (2021-2030), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Blue Economy Strategy and the celebration of the 40th anniversary of studies in Marine Sciences in Spain.

This event is a well-established meeting place between researchers and professionals, as well as an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to present the results of their End-of-Degree Projects and End-of-Master Projects. Its appeal is completed by the participation of a group of speakers from world-class plenary sessions and an international participation that is intended to be as broad as possible. The transdisciplinary nature of the sessions and the presence of Citizen Science will be prioritized, in order to reinforce the connections between different disciplines and between them and society, as well as to promote joint reflection.

Along with ISMS 2022 will be held, DINO 12, XXI Iberian Seminar of Marine Chemistry (SIQUIMAR 2022), VII Expanding Ocean Frontiers (EOF 2022), I International Symposium on Artisanal and Recreational Fishing in Islands Systems: Assessment, Vulnerabilities and Management (IS- AR-FIS) and Maritime Plan, development and research Workshop, among other events.

In order to facilitate the participation of colleages from all over the world, the ISMS Conference will be both,  an on site and online conference.
